Lucille L. Briggs, 80, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Nov. 5, 2007 in the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 8 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Jim Steen officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.

Lucille was born March 5, 1927 at Marcus to Oscar and Lillie (Diercksen) Nelson. She attended country school near Marcus and graduated from Quimby High School in 1945. She was married to Elmer Hanson on Oct. 3, 1950 at Marcus. He died in November of 1957. She was married to George H. Briggs on Feb. 2, 1960 at Blair, Neb. Lucile had worked for a drug store in LeMars and later for Nelson Drug Store in Cherokee. She was the bookkeeper for Briggs Motor Co. for many years, retiring in 1975. Following their retirement they traveled and lived in their motor home for 16 years. She had lived in Cherokee since 1990. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Church Bible Study Group, and several wood carving clubs. She enjoyed woodcarving, crocheting and embroidery work.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Elmer Hanson and George H. Briggs, a son Marvin Hanson, a step-son Steven Briggs, two brothers Orville and Clifford Nelson and a sister Darlene Briggs.

She is survived by four step-children: George O. Briggs and his wife Dolores of Cherokee; Dale "Bud" Briggs of Calumet; Jaclyn Letsche and her husband Charles of Cherokee; Betty McBride of Aurelia; many step grandchildren, many step-great grandchildren and several step-great great grandchildren; one brother and one sister: LeRoy Nelson and his wife Lois of Cherokee; Lois Cooper and her husband Kenneth of Lime Springs.
