1923-2005 CHEROKEE CHRONICLE TIMES

Harold L. Decker, 77, passed away Sat. Nov. 12, 2005 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center, Cherokee,

Services were held Wed. Nov. 6, 2005, at 10:00a.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church. Pastors Larry Nilson and Donald McCollam officiated. Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cherokee V.F.W. Greenwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harold was born in Algona, Ia, on Apr. 29th. 1928, to William and Hazel ( Spurgeon) Decker, He farmed and trucked while living in Swea City. He also worked at the Welp Hatchery in Bancroft. He was married to Ruth Sanders on Nov. 27, 1950 in Canton S.D.. She proceeded him in death on Aug. 23, 1994. He worked as a laborer at Wilson Foods in Cherokee from 1964-1993. On Apr. 6, 1996, he married Iris ( Kressin)Gerhart in Fenton.

Harold served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Cherokee V.F.W. and a union member of local 179. He was a champion roller skater. He loved gardening and raising Border Collies.

He is survived by his wife, 4 daughters; Judy Claussen and her husband Lawrence, Alta, Becky Noblit and her husband Kenneth, Cherokee, Jane Jaminet and her husband Larry, Cherokee. Honour Hope McCollam and her husband Ryan, Cherokee. Sons, William, and his wife Rosann, Cherokee, Michael and his wife Julie, Cherokee, Brian and his wife Valerie, Cherokee. Step daughter Kathleen Meyer and her husband Dan, Fenton, 3 step-sons, Brion Gerhart and Linda Chrischilles, Dallas Tx., Wayne Gerhart, and his wife Denise, Hutchinson Kansas, 3 brothers, Walt and his wife June, Florida, Howard and his wife Pat, Wisc., Dwight and his wife Judy, Ia., 18 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-gradchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law., Helen Geerdes and her husband Donald, Swea City, , Dorathy Looft, and her husband Phil, Mankato, Mn., 3 brothers-in-law John Christensen and his wife, Barb,Ia., Roger Sanders and his wife , Sue, Mn. Ray Sanders and his wife, Carol, Ia,
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth , a son Nicki, a daughter -in law Sharon Christenson.
