DANIELS, MUDGE, JOHNSON

1859-1938 CHEROKEE ARCHIVES

Lewis Hastings Daniels was born at Boston, Mass. on July 3rd. 1859, and passed away at his home in Aurelia Ia., on Sat. Aug. 20th. 1938, at the age of 75.

He was the second son of Edward and Louise Daniels. At the age of 13 he came with his parents to Aurelia from Boston Mass. Where with the exception of a few years spent in S.D. he lived the remainder of his life.

On Feb. 25, 1903, he married Ella Mudge Johnson of Cherokee. To this union was born 1 son Lewis Hasting ( Lewie) Daniels Jr.

Lew, who he was known by his countless friends, by his upright and fair dealings gained a host of loyal friends. He was actively -engaged in the livestock business in Aurelia for over 30 years. He was keenly interested in and well informed on political questions and currant topics of the day , dealing with matters of finance and other local and national problems . He was always anxious and willing to extend assistance where needed and to do his part for any cause which would do benefit to the community and country where needed. He was devoted to his wife , who gave him her assistance with the problems of his life and loving care during his illness, as well as of his only child and son, who has been his fathers constant companion and who merited his intense admiration.

Beside his bereaved widow and his son Lewis, Mr. Daniels is survived by 4 brothers , Amos of Calif, Azro and Everett of Minn, and Fred of Aurelia. He was preceded in death by parents, his sister who died in infancy, and his brother, Edward.

Mr. Daniels was a good husband and father and lived close to his family. he was strongly tied and devoted to his father who died at the age of 80 years and to his mother who passed away at the age of 96. The happiness and welfare of his wife . son, home, and friends was one of his urgent desires. He will be greatly mourned and missed by all those who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the home with the Rev. L.H. Preul in Charge. Burial was in the Aurelia cemetery.
