1928-2005 Cherokee Chronicle Times

Harold Lloyd Decker, 77, of 5080 T. Ave. Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Sat. Nov. 12th, 2005 unexpectedly at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Services were held Wed. Nov. 16, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Pastors Larry Nilson and Donald McCollam officiated. Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cherokee VFW Post . Greenwood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold was born in Algona, Iowa on Apr. 29th. 1928, to the late William and Hazel (Spurgeon)Decker. He farmed and trucked while living at Swea City, Iowa . He also worked at the Welp Hatchery in Bancroft, Ia . He was married to Ruth Marie Sanders on Nov. 27, 1950 in Canton, SD. She proceeded him in death on Aug. 23 1994. He worked as a laborer at Wilson Foods from 1964-1983 . On Apr. 6, 1996 he married Iris (Kressin) Gerhart in Fenton, IA

Harold served in the U.S. Army as a Private in the Korean War. He was a member of the Cherokee VFW and also a union member of local 179. Harold was a champion roller skater. He loved gardening and raising Border Collies and chickens and hunting and fishing. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren as well.

He is survived by his wife, Iris, of Cherokee, 4 daughters ; Judy Claussen , and her husband , Lawrence, of Alta, Ia. Becky Noblitt and her husband , Kenneth, of Cherokee, Jane Jaminet , and her husband, Larry of Cherokee, Honour Hope McCallam, and her husband Ryan, of Cherokee, 3 sons, William, and his wife Rosann of Cherokee, Michael and his wife Julie of Cherokee, Brian and his wife , Valerie, of Cherokee. Step daughter ; Kathleen Meyer, and her husband , Dan of Fenton, 3 step sons, Brian Gerhart and Linda Chrischilles of Dallas TX. Wayne Gerhart, and his wife Denise, of Huthinson KS. 3 brothers , Walt and his wife June, of Florida, Howard and his wife Pat of Wisconsin, Dwight and his wife Judy, 0f IA. 18 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Geerdes and her husband , Donald , of Swea City, IA, Dorothy Looft, and her husband, Phil, of Mankato, MN, 3 brothers-in-law, John Christensen and his wife, Barb, of IA, Roger Sanders, and his wife, Sue, of MN, Ray Sanders and his wife , Carol, of IA.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth (Aug. 23, 1994), a son Nicki ( Aug. 1 1992), daughter-in-law, Sharon decker, and a sister Sharon Christensen.
