Funeral services for A. Dillon who died at the home of his son, Arthur L. at S. Brownsville, PA were held at his home in Cherokee, 302 Roosevelt Ave., Monday at 2:30p.m. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery. The body arrived Sunday morning. Rev. M. P. Arrasmith was in charge of the services and the Odd Fellows were present in a body.

Adelbert Dillon was born in Hardin county, Iowa, April 3, 1856. He grew to manhood on a farm near Iowa Falls and commenced working for the old Dubuque and Sioux City railroad in the fall of 1876 as bridge carpenter between Cherokee and Hazard, now Meriden, later being promoted to bridge and building supervisor on the Cherokee, Omaha districts and followed this the most of his life with the exception of five years spent on a fruit ranch on the western slope of Colorado and two years spent in the government yards at Harriman, Pa.

He was a member of the local Masonic order and always retained his birthright in the Quaker Church at Iowa Falls. He moved his family to Cherokee in 1887 and built a home in the Whitmore and Corbett addition in 1888.

He was married to Mary J. Brown at Eldora, Iowa, Feb. 13, 1887, who preceded him in death in 1929. To this union were born nine children, three of who preceded him in death.

At the age of 70 he was placed on the pension roll of the Illinois Central and as a Christmas gift 1930, was granted a lifetime system pass.

Mrs. Ella Sibeck of Cherokee, Mrs. Ray Peters of Marcus and Mrs. Fred Orr of Tracy, Minn., are daughters of Mr. Dillon, and Dave Dillon of Cherokee, A. B. Dillon of Denver and A. L. Dillon of South Brownsville are sons who survive.
