LAMONT, MATHEWS, TRIMBLE, MUNSON

W. H. Lamont, 69, prominent Meriden business man and resident of Cherokee county for 42 years, died at his home at 4:00 Saturday morning following a short illness. Mr. Lamont was taken suddenly ill Thursday night.

Mr. Lamont was born near Belfast, Ireland, October 7, 1861, and came to this country with his father in 1869. The family located in Illinois where they remained until 1888. In that year the family moved to Cherokee county, locating at Meriden.

He acquired his education in Illinois schools and remained with his father until he was 27 years old. He turned his attention to farming in Liberty township for the next ten years. For the next five years he traveled for the International Harvester company and then was appointed manager of the E. A. Brown elevator. He held this position for seven years.

He had served as justice of peace for Liberty and Sheridan townships for 14 years and as a member of the Meriden town council. He was a candidate for sheriff in the republican primaries, 1912.

He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows and belonged to Modern Woodmen of America.

Surviving him are a wife and three sisters, Mrs. James Mathews, Sibley; Mrs. William Trimble, Parker SD; Mrs. Frank Munson, Calumet; two brothers, John Lamont, Meriden and James Lamont, Cherokee, and a cousin, Jim Lamont, Cherokee. All were at his bedside at his death.

Funeral services were held from the Meriden church at 2:oo Monday afternoon. Burial was at Meriden. Odd Fellow had charge of services at the grave.
