Julia Orchard

Julia Orchard, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa died July 8, 2007 in Careage Hills, Cherokee, Iowa. Memorial services will be at 11: 00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Rev. Lilette Johnston will officiate.

Julia was born July 26, 1920 in Calhoun, Iowa to Melvin and Lelah Skinner. She attended school in Missouri Valley, Iowa graduating in 1938. She married Howard Orchard on March 9, 1939 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1992. They moved to Cherokee in 1952. Julia worked for 16 years at Sioux Valley Hospital as a nurse’s aide, retiring in 1982. She was a member of All-Saints Episcopal Church, Storm Lake, Iowa.

She is survived by five children: Judy Schultz, Peterson, Iowa; Dick Orchard, and his wife, Georgia, of Lawrence, Kansas; Jerry Orchard, Redmond, Washington; Kathy Murthy,and her husband, Kris of Santa Clara, California; and Steve Orchard, and his wife, Kitty, of Littleton, Colorado. Also surviving; a sister Janeen Barrett, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; a brother Dean Skinner, Spencer, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, parents Melvin and Lelah, brothers (Gene, Dale, and Jack), grandson Derek Orchard, and infant granddaughter Janeen Schultz.

Memorials may be sent to All-Saints Episcopal Church or to Hospice, Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
