Lois M. Stykel, 72, of Cherokee passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Cherokee Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Pastor Gregg Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Meriden Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Lois was born Feb. 15, 1935, at Aurelia, Iowa, to Henry and Hazel (Peterson) Husman. She was married to John Junior Schmidt on May 27, 1956, in Cherokee. Mr. Schmidt passed away in 1958. She was married to Elmer Stykel on Feb. 15, 1962, in Cherokee. Lois had lived in Cherokee County all her life.

She had worked in the laundry department at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab for 27 years, retiring in 2005. She enjoyed gardening and time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her four sons, Rick Schmidt and his wife, Ann, DeVane Schmidt and his wife, Tina, Rodney Schmidt and friend, Carrie Hall and her daughter, Hailey, and Todd Stykel and his fiancee, Lindi, all of Cherokee; seven grandchildren, Kelly Wilkie and her husband, Kyle of Cherokee; Mike Frazier and his wife, Sandi of Cherokee, Richie Schmidt, Jessica Stykel, Cassandra Schmidt, Madison Bittner and Emily Stykel, all of Cherokee; five great-grandchildren, Britney Sargent, Trysten and Jaden Frazier, Bailey and Bryer Wilkie; a brother, Clifford Husman of Sioux City; five sisters, Lilly Nelson of Sibley, Iowa, Delores Benson of Cherokee, Jo Grienke and her husband, Robert of Alta, Iowa, Martha Helland of Mason City, Iowa, and Freda Congdon and her husband, Wayne of Wisconsin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Schmidt and Elmer Stykel; and a sister, Edna Peck.
