Gertrude H. (Viken) Peterson Lynn, 89, of Marcus, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services were held on Monday Feb.12 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, with Rev. Liz Pfeifle officiating. Burial was at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Gertrude Helen Viken was born in Sioux City on Dec. 20, 1917 to John and Marguerite (Schreier) Viken. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, and was married to John "Bud" Peterson in Sioux City on April 29, 1938.

The couple had five children: Nancy and Max Drefke, Richard Peterson, Barb and her late husband Paul Jorgensen, John and Sandy Peterson, and Diane and Keith Grage.

Bud Peterson died on Dec. 8, 1958, and Gertrude married Dale Lynn on Nov. 9, 1962 in Marcus. Dale had three children: Jim Lynn, Virgina and Steve St. Amand and Janet and Clem Brown. Dale died on Nov. 13 2001.

Gertrude enjoyed making all kinds of crafts, and was an excellent homemaker and cook who especially loved baking pies.

She is survived by grandchildren Donna Drefke, LuAnn and Brian Miller, Kenny and Lisa Drefke; Tammie and John Atchison; Karen Jorgensen; Paul Jorgensen Jr.; John Peterson, Jr.; Vickie and Noren Livingston; Alan and his fiancee Kerri; Jessica; and Cody Grage; step-grandchildren Shyam Lynn; Robin and BJ Love, Shane and Brett Hartgrave; and Meghan, Brendan and Bridget Kelly. Great-grandchildren are Brian Drefke, Justine Lynn, John Jr. and Jacob Atchison. Christian Livingston, and Mickey Kelly.

Other survivors include her sister Marguerite and Clarence Pearson; half-brothers John and Darlene Viken; Havey and Donna Viken; half-sister Betty and Al Gries; and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and infant son Richard, on July 20, 1941.
