Jane A. Huffman, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Norman Regional Hospital after a recent illness. Services were held on Jan. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church of Norman, with the Rev. Dr. Bob Rice officiating. Burial was held at Norman IOOF Cemetery in Norman, Okla. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Okla.

Huffman was born May 14, 1918, at Cherokee, to Dr. George E. and Lillian Johnson Avery. She graduated from high school in Cherokee in 1935, and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Iowa in 1939.

She taught business for two years at the high school in Kalona, from 1939 to 1941.

On July 9, 1941, she married Dr. George G. Huffman, and then worked as a secretary at Columbia University in New York City for two years while her husband earned his Ph.D. in geology there. She and her late husband settled in Norman in 1946, when he became a professor of geology and geophysics at OU. After raising her three children, she became an executive secretary for the administration at the University of Oklahoma for 15 years. Together, Jane and her husband served the University of Oklahoma for a combined 55 years.

Jane was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Norman for more than 60 years, serving on the board of trustees and as an elder. Her affiliations included Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Quest Club, Wabunaki, charter member of University Women's Association, a 50 year member of PEO and a member of University Associates. She was an avid OU fan and supporter.

Huffman established a memorial scholarship fund in her husband's name when he died in 1991. She was loved and admired by all whose lives she touched and will be missed greatly, her family said.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Dr. Karl Avery and her husband George. She is survived by a daughter, Janice C. Huffman, of Tulsa; her son Randall A. Huffman and his wife Mary Jane, of Greenwich, Conn., and their two children, Ted and Avery and her spouse Daniel Yee; and her son Larry M. Huffman and his wife Pati of Norman and their four children, Brian Huffman and wife Shona of Dallas, Julie Young and husband Joel of Williamsburg, Va., Jami Martin and husband Matt of Norman and Jarrod Pryor and wife Summer of Norman and their children Chloe E. Huffman, Lillian Avery Huffman, Charlotte Jane Young, Alex M. Martin, Trevor C. Martin and Hayden W. Pryor.
