Mary F. Anderson, 83, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Wednesday February 7, 2007 at Careage Hills, Cherokee, Iowa following a brief illness.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Armand Bertrand will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a scripture service at 7:00 P.M. at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa. Mary was born November 4, 1923 in Cherokee, Iowa to Harry and Ellen “Nellie” (O’Brien) Cosgrove. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School and later business school in Sioux City, Iowa. On December 28, 1949 she married Martin “Marty” Anderson in Cherokee, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 24, 1991. Mary was employed for many years as a secretary to Mrs. Grace Heller, the director at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital, and as staff assistant to the doctors. She continued her career in the medical field as administrative assistant to the Regional Director of Admissions, Dr. Brinnegar, at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. Later, Mary worked for George Hoyt, a local realtor and abstractor for many years. She also worked at the Cherokee County Courthouse in the offices doing title searches and assessments.

Following the retirement of her husband “Marty” from the Illinois Central Railroad, they found a new love together in antiquing, and made many friends with antique dealers in Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, and Arizona. Mary opened her own shop on Main Street in Cherokee, called “Martiques”. Mary attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ladies Union, Illinois Central Railroad retirees and coffee club at the Family Table.

Survivors include sons, Jim Anderson, and his wife, Diane, of Yankton, South Dakota; Tim Anderson, of Spring Hill, Kansas; a sister, Rose Ann Cosgrove Johnson, and her son, Brian, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Jeremy Anderson, and his wife, Sara; Julie Gartin, and her husband, Wayne; Justin Anderson, and Tiffany; Jon Anderson; several step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren; Her special neighbors and friends Margaret Ohlson, of Storm Lake, Iowa and Don and Barb Campbell, of Cherokee, Iowa

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, James and Johnny Cosgrove.
