Walter J. Galvin, 73, of 1159 K Ave, NW (Cedar Rapids, IA) died Friday at his residence following a long illness.

Born March 30, 1909, at Marcus, Iowa, he married the former Esther D. Miller on June 3, 1933, at Marcus. He was a painter for more than 20 years employed by model Painting Co. Mr. Galvin was a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and Painters Local Union No. 447 ALF-CIO.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Helen Willfong of Belle Plaine; two sons, Roger of Belle Plaine and Jon of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Nielsen of Marion, Mrs. Lucille Caauwe of May City, Iowa, Mrs. Kathryn Kinseth of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Mrs. Mabel Hawes of Wolfeboro, NH; and a brother, Lloyd of Wolfeboro, NH.

Services: 3:30pm Monday at holy Redeemer Lutheran Church by Pastor Cedric J. Lofdahl. Burial: Marcus-Amherst Cemetery, Marcus, Iowa. Friends may call at Turner Chapel West from noon until 9pm today and from 9am until 2pm Monday, then at the church from 2:30pm until service time when the casket will be closed and not opened following services. Friends may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 603 10th St SE 52403, or Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church memorial Fund, 720 Edgewood Road NW 52405.
