Mary C. Klaschen, 78, of rural Cherokee, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Pastor Leroy Riemer officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary was born July 14, 1928, at Beverly, N.J. She graduated from high school in 1945. She married Earl Klaschen on Dec. 20, 1946, in Beverly. Mary had lived on a farm in Cedar Township since 1954. She was a homemaker, farmed with her husband and in later years, took care of the elderly in their homes. Mary entered Sunset Knoll in April of 2006.

She enjoyed flower gardening, gardening, playing cards and bowling. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

She is survived by a son, Bruce Klaschen and Lorena of Cherokee; two grandchildren, Christopher Klaschen and Mari Klaschen, both of Aurelia, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Lief, Dominic and Kira; a sister-in-law, Wilma Anderson of California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl on Feb. 16, 1980; four brothers, Fred, Benjamin, Pete and John; and two sisters, Angeline and Nickoline; and a brother-in-law, Roy Anderson.
