1926--1990 Aurelia Sentinel

Leland "Lee" Hasenwinkel, 63 passed away Thursday, July 19,1990 at 3:14 a.m., in Sioux Valley Hosp. in Cherokee following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Sat. July 21 at the Memorial presbyterian Church. Rev. Ray kruger officiated and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lee was born Sept. 24, 1926 at Aurelia IA to Fred and Emma (Zorn) Hasenwinkel. He graduated from Aurelia High School in 1945. He was married to Mary Ann Montgomery on Feb. 7, 1954 in Cherokee. His home was at 1116 W. Cedar St. He had lived in Cherokee the past 36 years, prior to that in the Aurelia area.

Lee had worked construction for a number of years, worked at Wilson Foods, had been an insurance agent for Mass. Mutual Insurance and was a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Cherokee retiring on Mar. 1 1990.

Lee was a member and Elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church, was a member and Past Master of Speculative Lodge No. 307 A.F. and A.M. . was a District Lecturer and held a M.I. Certificate.

He was a member of the Sioux City Consistory and the Abu-Bekr Shrine in Sioux City, Ia. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army, was a member of the L.A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW, was a member of the Cherokee Country Club and had served as Sec.-Treas. of the Sioux Valley Amateur Match Play Golf Tourament for many years.

He is survived by his wife ,Mary Ann; 2 sons Paul of Cherokee and Matt of Marshalltown and 1 daughter, Mrs. Bob (Holly) Wilks, Huntsville Ala. Also 3 Grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ray Haenwinkel, Cherokee and Merlin , Aurelia and 1 sister Mrs. Elmer ( Emily) Otte, Primghar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy and 1 sister, Dorothy Golnitz.

Pallbearers were Jim Gatewood, Dale Sturgeon, Larry McAtee, Wayne Witcombe, Gene Streeter and Rodney Hasenwinkel.
