Fred W. Kreutz, 86, of Holstein entered into rest Tue. Oct. 24, 2006 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Holstein.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Fri. at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva ,Ia , with Rev. Paul Egger officiating. Burial will be in Diamond Township Cemetery, Cherokee County, Ia, with military services by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein. The Barker Funeral Home in Holtein will be in charge of arrangments.
Fred was born May, 10, 1920, in Ida County, Iowa. to Fritz and Frauke ( Frahm) Kreutz. He was 1 of 9 children. In 1930 they moved to the family farm in Diamond Township, Cherokee County where he attended country school. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 11, 1942. He spent most of his time in Europe, where he had the privilege of being a chauffer to Gen. Eisenhower in W.W. II. He returned to Camp McCoy, Wis. where he was discharged on Oct, 14, 1945.
On Oct. 20, 1946 he married Lea Esther Lullmann at Zion Lutheran Church near Storm Lake, Ia. They made their home on the family farm in Diamond Township, Cherokee County Ia. where they raised their 3 children. He farmed the land for more than 40 years. The couple just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
He was a proud and active member of the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post for more than 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, volunteering at the American Legion and listening and dancing to polka music.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter , Lynette and Alan Fey of Sioux City; A son and his wife, Loren and Ann(Meissner)Kreutz of Aurelia: a son and his wife, Lyle and Sarah (Marsh) Kreutz of Holstein: three sisters; a brother; nine grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren
He is preceeded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; and a brother.
