Muriel J. Hasenwinkel, 85, passed away Friday, July 14, 2006 at 11:50 p.m. at Countryside Estates in Cherokee following a long illness. She was born Apr. 27, 1921 in Cherokee County Iowa to John and Agnes (Scott) Blake. She attended Afton Township # 2 school for 8 years and grduated from Aurelia High School in 1938. She continued her education at St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City, Ia. graduating August 30,1942, She married Raymond Hasenwinkel on Feb. 16, 1953 in Cherokee Ia. She worked as a surgical Nurse at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for 40 1/2 years serving as supervisor of surgery for many years, retiring in 1983. Muriel has resided in Countryside Estates since Apr. of 1997. She had lived in Cherokee since 1985, prior to this she lived on a farm in Silver Township. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray on on Nov. 17, 1994; 2 brothers, Rolan and Russell Blake, 3 brothers -in-law Merlin and Leland Hasenwinkel and Wilmer Anderson; 2 sisters-in-law , Dorathy Golnitz of Minn. and Mary Ann Hasenwinkel of Cherokee. She is survived by 1 sister and 1 brother; Eleanor Anderson of Alta and Donald Blake and his wife Annette of Cherokee . 1 Brother-in-law, Herbert Golnitz of Minn.; 4 sisters-in-law Donna Blake of Spirit Lake , Ia.; Peggy Blake of Sheldon ,Ia.; Francis Hasenwinkel of Aurelia and Emily Otte and her husband Elmer of Primghar Ia.; 1 cousin Marcella Scott of Dakota Dunes S.D. and many nieces and nephews.
