Shirley M. Elsbury 71, of rural Sutherland and formerly of Cherokee, died at her home.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Royal United Methodist Church in Royal. Pastor Roger Maize and Pastor Michael Hyde will officiate. There was no visitation. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of the arrangements.

Elsbury was born Feb. 17, 1935 in O'Brien County, to Charles and Edna Andrie. She was married to Irvin B. Elsbury in 1954 at Sutherland. She had worked as an LPN for Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, working in the Surgery Dept. She worked for Aalf's Manufacturing in Spencer, retiring in 1997.

Elsbury had lived in the Sutherland area since 1987, prior to this in Cherokee for many years. She was a member of the Maple Grove Church, rural Peterson. She was a former member of the Cherokee Saddle Club. She loved the outdoors, gardening, horses, her pets, needlework and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irvin on April 17, 1998, a brother Donald Andrie and one sister Phyllis Walker.

She is survived by one daughter: Shelly Nelson and her husband Dave of Dickens; one step-granddaughter Ellie Nelson of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother Dennis Andrie and his wife Mary of Story, Wyo.; a half-brother Darwin Andrie; a brother-in-law Leon Walker of Royal; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
