AVIS RUPP

Avis Rupp, 94, of Cherokee, Iowa died Saturday October 28, 2006 at the Cherokee Villa following a brief illness.

Services will be held Thursday November 2, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Father Armand Bertrand and Father Gene Sitzmann will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home with a rosary at 4:00 P.M. by the Catholic Daughters of America, and a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com. Memorials can be directed to either Cherokee Hospice or the Immaculate Conception Church organ repair fund.

Avis was born December 3, 1911 in Cherokee, Iowa to Henry and Grace (O’Neill) Peck.

She attended school in Meriden, graduating from Meriden High School in 1929. On February 21, 1933 she married Norbert Rupp at the Maryhill Visitation Church. Norbert died October 11, 1983. They farmed for a number of years and later moved to Cherokee where they owned and managed the Hillside Apartments. Norbert and Avis enjoyed their winters in Phoenix, Arizona and spending their summers at their lake home on East and later, West Lake Okoboji. Avis was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards.

Survivors include sisters-in-law; Mabel Peck, of Cherokee, Iowa; Hazel Rupp, of Marcus, Iowa; Sr. Christina Rupp OSM and Sr. Catherine Rupp OSM, both of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Randy Sawyers, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ralph Rupp, and his wife, Herta, of Cherokee, Iowa; Floyd Rupp, of Sioux City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Norbert, 1983), brothers, Alfred, Harry, Francis, Lester, and Ron Peck; sisters, Edith Matzen, Alice Olsen, Evelyn Groh.
