Betsy Elizabeth Long was born in Pennsylvania, December 10, 1830. amd died at her home in Aurelia Tuesday, April 1, 1913,

She was married to Nelson W. Crippen in May, 1849, in Harrison county, Pennsylvania to which union was born five children, two of whom are now living and were present at the funeral, Del E. Crippen living south of Aurelia, and Dudley G. Crippen of Fulda, Minnesota. Besides the two sons she leaves to mourn her death three brothers and three sisters and other relatives living in Michigan as well as relatives living in this community. In 1854 the family moved to Michigan from where they went to Illinois in 1868. After four years residence in Illinois they decided to go west and came to Cherokee county where the family has since resided, most of the time in Aurelia. Two years ago she was called upon to mourn the loss of her husband. Mrs. Crippen was a faithful member of the Congregational Church here, until the time of her death. During her long residence among the people of this community she made a large number of friends, who knew her for her generous impulse and gentle spirit, and who were caused sorrow by her death.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon of last week in the church of her faith, Rev. Hoon of the M.E. church officiating, and the remains laid to rest beside those of her husband in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
