Floyd Lester Anderson, son of Robert and Clara Anderson, was born in Afton township, Cherokee county, Iowa, August 25, 1896, and passed away at his home in Afton township April 18, 1943, being 46 years, 8 months and 23 days old. Death came unexpectedly after a brief illness.
Mr. Anderson spent his entire life in this locality. He attended country school in Afton and then took his high school work in the city of Cherokee.
April 6, 1934, he was united in marriage to Lorilla May Whiting of Afton township, To this union three children were born, Robert Floyd, Richard Dale, and Benny Lyle.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Anderson established their home on a farm in Afton township, where they lived until a few weeks ago, when they moved to their present location.
For many years Mr. Anderson was very active in the Farm Bureau and the AAA, serving both organizations as chairman for several years. Also for 10 years he was township assessor. He was always ready and willing to serve his community in any worthwhile activities.
In his home he was a kind and thoughtful husband and father. The interests of his family were uppermost in his mind. He toiled hard that he might provide for their comfort and security. He did not spare himself in the least.
To his neighbors Floyd was a true friend. They could count on him. He was always the same, considerate, helpful, friendly , they came to rely on him and to depend on his judgement and helpfulness. They are going to miss him greatly.
There remain to mourn his untimely passing his wife and three sons, one sister, Blanch(Mrs. Fred Daniels) of Aurelia; four brothers, Sam, of Dover, Idaho; Guy and Arthur of Aurelia; and Walter in the armed services besides a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were at the home and in the Methodist Church; Aurelia, Wednesday afternoon, April 21. Rev. E. Stanworth was in charge, assisted by Rev. Edwin Trigg. Members of the choir were Mrs. Arthur Phipps, Mrs. Roy Matzdorff, Gus Ohlson, George Parrott, and Mrs. O. C. Waddell. Songs were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Sometime We'll Understand,""The Old Rugged Cross."
Burial was at the Afton cemetery.
