BLAKE, COLLMAN, TOWNSEND

Cherokee Daily Times--Dec. 30, 1915

C.R. Blake, one of the pioneers of Iowa and for many years a resident of Cherokee, passed away at the home of his daughter. Mrs, Collman at George Iowa, Monday, Dec. 27, 1915. The remains were brought here, and funeral services were held at the Appleyard Undertaking Parlors this morning. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Blake was 83 years of age, and up to the time of his death enjoyed splendid health and was remarkably vigorous for one of his years. His death was very sudden.
He leaves to mourn his death, 2 daughters, Mrs. Mary Collman of George, and Mrs. E. L. Townsend of LeMars; 2 sons, W. E.Blake of Eau Claire, Wisc. and R. E. Blake of Hastings Neb.
Mr. Blake was well known in north-west Ia. in the early 80's, when the town of Remson was being built, he owned and operated the first hotel there. The Blake house was well known to many patrons. After living in Remsen he moved to Cherokee County. He has also farmed near Merrill Ia. and Canton S.D. His death leaves a gap in the ranks of the of the early Iowa pioneers. Mr. Blake was well known to many in northwest Iowa.
