HOLSTEIN, Iowa -- Charley Thomas Fraser, 84, of Holstein died from acute myelogenous leukemia on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holstein United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Todd Schlitter officiating. A luncheon will follow directly in the fellowship hall. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Dessel-Schmidt Post 225 of Holstein. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

"Chuck" was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on Nov. 9, 1921, to Robert and Petrea (Petersen) Fraser. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1940. On Nov. 25, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor throughout World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Navy Aircorps on October 1945.

He married Joyce Agnes Le Moine on Aug. 23, 1946, in Sioux City. They moved to Holstein in 1949, where they later established Chuck's Body Shop. He added sales of lawn mowers and recreational vehicles to his business. He retired from "the shop" in 1986, when he established Chuck's Used Cars, which he operated until his death.

He was a member of several organizations including a bowling league, United Methodist Church, American Legion, Alpine Masonic Lodge 471, Order of the Eastern Star, the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and the Chamber of Commerce. His interests included anything with an engine, especially stock cars, go-carts, snowmobiles, radio controlled airplanes, NASCAR as well as hunting pheasants and fishing. He was recently overheard saying "I worked hard, but I played hard too."

Survivors include his wife; five children and their spouses, Judy Jane and Wesley Peterson, Thomas Eugene and Gwyn, Linda Jean and Randy Groepper, Jody Charles and Kimberly and Carla Joy and Dylan De Vries; 12 grandchildren, Bradley and Tina Peterson, Melissa and T.C. Fraser, Joseph, Daniel and Mary Groepper, Alicia, Billy and Valerie Fraser and Claire and Andrew De Vries; three great-grandchildren, Catherine, Jessica and Madison Peterson; and four sisters, Anita and her husband, Harold Little, Bessie and her husband, Jerry Chapman, Betty Chapman and Annie Rolfes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Robert Fraser; and a grandson, Matthew Ernest Groepper.

Memorials may be directed to any favorite charity and the Siouxland Blood Bank, blood donations would be especially appreciated.
