Mildred Rupp, 87, Cherokee died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee with Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating.

Burial will be at Maryhill Visitation Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Greenwood Funeral Home of Cherokee is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with a scripture service at 7 p.m., all at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mildred Rupp was born October 24, 1918 in rural Cherokee to John and Anna (Kohn) Rupp. She was raised in the Cherokee area and received her education at both Maryhill Catholic School and Rock Township country school. At the age of eleven she was stricken with polio and was badly paralyzed. She had resided with her sister, Marcella, and her family for many years and for the last there years was a resident of Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Church Guild. She was a member of 1918 club and also of a pen pal organization with correspondents in all 50 states, Canada and as far away as England.

Survivors include a sister, Marcella Glover and sister-in-law Celesta Rupp, both of Cherokee, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilmar and Louis Rupp; and brother-in-law Ralph Glover.
