Robert R "Rusty" Ehrig & Agnes Arlene (Martin) Ehrig

Robert H. "Rusty" Ehrig, 81, and his wife Agnes Arlene Ehrig, 82, of Meriden, died Thursday Sept. 21, 2006 as a result of a two vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 3, east of Meriden.

Joint services are Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. Rev. Gene Sitzmann is officiating. Burial is in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation was Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 5-8 p.m. at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. A scripture service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Rusty was born April 8, 1925 on a farm near Danbury, to Anton L and Clarissa (Liliefelt) Ehrig.

He grew up and was educated in Danbury. On Nov. 29, 1942, he married Agnes Arlene Martin in Ida Grove. They moved to Meriden and Rusty worked for Wilson Foods Inc., now Tyson Foods for many years. Rusty retired in 1989 to play golf and spend time with his family.

Arlene was born March 22, 1924 in rural Galva to Floyd 'Shorty' and Martha (Smith) Martin. She attended country school near Galva. On Nov. 29, 1942 she married Rusty Ehrig in Ida Grove. She enjoyed being a stay at home mother and baby sitting for other children.

Arlene also enjoyed doing arts and crafts for others and her own home. Together they enjoyed dancing, cards, and socializing with family and friends.

They are survived by four children; Bob Ehrig, and his wife, Sandy, of Nevada, Iowa; Dennis Ehrig, and his wife, Jeanie, of Marcus; Teresa Hansen, and her husband, David, of Sutherland; Esther Albers, and her husband, Mike, of Alton; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Arlene's sister, Shirley Simon, of Odebolt, Iowa. Rusty's brother Chuck Ehrig, and his wife, Caroline, of Manchester; his sisters Clarissa "Boots" Schuman, and her husband, Merle, of Ida Grove; Lucille Sievert, of Templeton, Texas; Louise Barkley, and her husband, Vernon, of Phoenix, Ariz., his sister-in-law, Norma Ehrig, and three step-grandchildren.

They were preceded in death by their parents; a son Steve Ehrig and his wife, Jayne; an infant daughter, Kathy Jean Ehrig; Arlene's three sisters, Erma, Doris and Helen. Rusty's three brothers, Cyril 'Zip' Ehrig, Leo Ehrig, and Edgar "Red" Ehrig; his sister, Rita Skou and her husband, David.
