Franklin L. Prunty

MARCUS, Iowa -- Franklin L. Prunty, 92, of Sioux City, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, and the Marcus areas, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Church of Christ in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. Gary Swick officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, Storm Lake. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Prunty was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Cleghorn, Iowa, to Albert and Ethel (Hoke) Prunty. He was married to Vera Zoch on Oct. 8, 1941, in Cherokee. He farmed near Marcus for 25 years, then moved to Storm Lake in 1966. He worked in the maintenance department at the Buena Vista County Hospital for 11 years, retiring in 1977.

He had been a resident of Sioux City for the past five years and prior to that had lived in Perry, Iowa, for one and one half years, Storm Lake for 32 years and was originally from the Marcus area.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. He enjoyed fishing, boating and tinkering with anything that needed to be fixed.

He is survived by four children and spouses, Betty and Ron Nelson of Cherokee, Jerry and Susanna Prunty of Perry, Iowa, Judy Prunty of West Des Moines and Mark and Cyndy Prunty of Yankton, S.D.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera on Nov. 7, 1973; two brothers and two sisters, Cyril Prunty, Kenneth Prunty and his wife, Evelyn, Winifred Swanson and her husband, Melvin and Edna Woltman and her husband, Harold.
