Richard C. 'Dick' Westcott
CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Richard C. "Dick" Westcott, 76, of Cherokee died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., followed with a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Dick was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Nemaha, Iowa, to Cecil and Alice (Dahm) Westcott. He attended school in Nemaha, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 27, 1955, he married Teresa Meylor at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. They moved to Albert City, Iowa, where Dick farmed and also served as a police officer. In 1966, he started working for Wilson Foods Incorporated, moving to Cherokee in 1975. He remained with Wilson Foods, now Tyson Foods, until retiring in 1991.
Dick was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening as well as watching sports, particularly football and NASCAR. He enjoyed time with his family, having coffee with friends and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Donna Lichtenberg and her husband, Eldon, of Aurelia, Iowa, and Janeen Westcott of Le Mars, Iowa; sons, Jim Westcott and Charles Westcott, both of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer Lichtenberg, Lauren Lichtenberg, Brody Lichtenberg, James Westcott and Joshua Sauter; great-grandchildren, Andrea Lichtenberg and Javon Lichtenberg; a sister, Marilyn Henrich and her husband, Ed of Newell, Iowa; brothers, Jerry Westcott and his wife, Pat of Arnolds Park, Iowa and Bob Westcott and his wife, Frances of Early, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dick in death were his parents; and a niece, Susan Eakins.
