CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Dorothy M. Carlson, 86, of Aurelia, Iowa, formerly a longtime Cherokee resident, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia following a three-year illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Jim Steen officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born April 15, 1919, in Remsen, Iowa, to Fred and Christina Klingbeil. She attended rural school and graduated from Le Mars (Iowa) Public School in 1938. She attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

She was married to Glenn Witt in 1940. She was later married to Carl A. Carlson in June 11, 1959, in Cherokee. She had taught school in the Marcus and Pierson, Iowa, area for a few years, then worked for the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for 24 and one half years. She retired in 1976.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking and she liked flowers.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Dale and Sandra Witt of Spencer, Iowa; a daughter, Donna Klungseth of Cherokee; three grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Hinspeter of Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Witt in 1990; her husband, Carl A. Carlson on March 1, 1972; and a sister, Betty Klingbeil.
