LARRABEE, Iowa -- Dan Laursen, 45, of Larrabee died Friday, May 20, 2005, at his home of a sudden illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, Iowa, with the Rev. James Steen officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com .
Dan was born June 5, 1959, to Nis and Joann (Rupp) Laursen. He attended school in Cherokee County and graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn High School in 1977. Following his graduation, he began working for Morton Buildings in Spencer, Iowa.
On Dec. 28, 1991, he married Sue Miller in Larrabee. He then moved back to Cherokee County, where he farmed and raised hogs. Later, he worked for Mogensen Construction for several years before working for Taylor Refrigeration the last 17 years. Dan and Sue were also developing a business called "The Iron Garden" making gates and trellises for area gardens.
Dan was a wonderful and loving husband and father. His passions for the outdoors included horses, archery and boating. He also enjoyed lifting weights, fitness and exercise.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Laursen of Larrabee; sons, Gus Laursen and Nate Laursen, both at home; his parents, Nis and Joann Laursen Jr. of Meriden, Iowa; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wally and Mary Ann Miller of Cherokee; a sister and her husband, Darly and Doug Gochenour of Cherokee; and a nephew, Brian Gochenour of Mankato, Minn.
