Paul L. Staver

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Paul L. Staver, 58, of Cherokee entered eternal rest with Christ on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a celebration of life service at 7 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Paul was born April 8, 1947, in Cherokee, to Aloysius "Pete" and Ellen (Toner) Staver. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1965.

On Jan. 27, 1968, he married Shirley Ann Haselhoff at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. He worked and lived all of his life in the Cherokee area.

He was an entrepreneur and enjoyed spending time tinkering on machinery, especially tractors. He was an awesome chef and was thrilled to provide home-cooked meals for all. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; three children and their spouses, Veronica and Tony Huerta of Bellevue, Neb., Dori and Fred Claycamp of Cherokee and Chad and Sara Staver of Dousman, Wis.; and a special family member, Jeanna Bittner of Omaha. His legacy will live on in his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Leah Ann, Vincent Paul, Caleb Paul, Trey "Trey", Dena Lynn, Skyler Joseph and Edwin Paul "Skootch." Surviving siblings include Corrine (Staver) Zenk of Slayton, Minn., Don Staver and his wife, Ardelle, of Aurelia, Iowa, Dick Staver and his wife, Barb, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Jim Staver and his wife, Janet, of Cherokee, Dean Staver and his wife, Loleta, of Wichita, Kan., Doug Staver and his wife, Donna, of Plattsville, Colo., and David Staver and his wife, Sara, of Twin Lakes, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Betty (Jerry) Staver of Cherokee; a brother-in-law, Ed (Joyce) Gross and his wife, Judy, of Meriden, Iowa; and a host of nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Staver; and sisters, Joyce (Staver) Gross and Jocile (Staver) Ricklefs.
