Edwin E. Linn

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Edwin E. Linn, 86, of Cherokee passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at his residence from an apparent heart attack.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Ed was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Hastings, Neb., to Walter and Esther (Olson) Linn. He quit school to go to work as a farmhand to help support his family.

He was married to Evelyn E. Rider on Oct. 11, 1942, in Dakota City. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a mechanic in Iceland. He lived in Sioux City from 1942 until 1961, when he moved to Cherokee. While living in Sioux City, he worked at Cudahay's Packing Company and Burke Lumber Co. After moving to Cherokee, he worked as a carpet layer for Cherokee Floor Covering and Martin Interiors.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1973 in Sioux City and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He loved to go fishing, play pool and cribbage.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters, Bruce Linn and his special friend, Tonya Claussen of Cherokee, Donna Linn of South Sioux City, Greg Linn and his wife, Susie of Chariton, Iowa, Dianna and her husband, Ralph Johnson of Moville, Iowa, and Steve Linn of Cherokee; six grandchildren, Jim Linn, Jeff Linn, Terry Linn, Kelly Boitz, April Linn and Jason Johnson; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Dec. 19, 2002; an infant son, Ronald Larry Linn; a sister, Margaret Best, who died two hours after Edwin; and three brothers, Ole, Leonard and Walter Linn Jr.
