CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Effie C. Halstrom, 108, of Cherokee passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meriden Evangelical Free Church, Meriden, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry Ostercamp officiating. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Effie was born Dec. 18, 1897, in Liberty Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, to John and Julia (Enockson) Carlson. She attended country school in Liberty Township and attended Cherokee schools for two years. She attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn. for one year.

She was married to Eddie Halstrom on Feb. 20, 1935, in rural Meriden, Iowa. She had lived in Cherokee since 1953. Prior to that, on a farm in Sheridan Township. She entered Cherokee Villa in September 1991.

She was a member of Meriden Evangelical Free Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Gramann of Greenville, S.C.; two grandsons and their wives, Robert and Tonya Gramann of Gray Court, S.C., and Todd and Margaret Gramann of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Gramann and Brock Gramann; and close friends, Lila and Orville Saxby of Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Halstrom on Nov. 14, 1990; two brothers, Alva and Fred Carlson; and a sister, Nina Anderson.
