Rodney Louis Ruppert, 71, of Cherokee, Iowa, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at his home, following a lengthy illness

Services will be held Wednesday July 12, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Funeral Home. L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the V.F.W. will conduct military graveside honors. Online condolences may be sent to www.greenwoodfuneral.com . Memorials are requested for the Hospice Program in Cherokee, Iowa.

Rodney was born April 7, 1935 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Frederick and Lorraine (Dietrich) Ruppert. He attended schools in Wisconsin, graduating from McDonnel High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56, stationed in Germany. Following his return from military service, Rodney attended Wisconsin State College at River Falls, Wisconsin in 1957 and 1958.

On April 7, 1959 Rodney married Gardis Minette in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He worked in retail sales for 17 years with St. Clair Clothing Company in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. He worked for the Cherokee Daily Times for 23 years as an advertising representative. On July 30, 1993 he married Mary Jo Lamb in Cherokee, Iowa. Rodney was a member of the NW Iowa RC Club (remote control flying), Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed all types of music, remote control airplanes, and “fix-it” projects.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; his children; Martin Ruppert, and his wife, Brenda, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Major Jeffrey Ruppert USMC, of Hemet, California; Lynn Hultman, and her husband, Rusty, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jean Hantsbarger, and her husband, Mike, of Meriden, Iowa; his grandchildren, Cory, Chase, Michael, and Cassandra Ruppert; Christopher and Kyle Hultman; Kaya and Abby Hantsbarger; a sister, Marlene Larson, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; stepchildren, Rev. Nathan Lamb, of Spring Hill, Florida; Sara Lamb, of Winterset, Iowa; mother-in-law, Neva Karssen, and her husband, Ed, of Alton, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Robert Benton, and his wife, Carla, of Punta Gorda, Florida; Gary Benton, of Stilwell, Kansas; Rodney’s beloved Scottish Terrier, Niki

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Randolph Ruppert), 2 grandsons, (Chad Hultman and Tyler Hultman)
