August 26, 1891-Cherokean Democrat

Died.

Near Meridan, Cherokee county, IA., August 18, 1891, Earlie J., son of Frank and Ida Johnson, aged 5 years, 1 month and 18 days. His death was very sudden, his sickness being of only about two hours duration . He will be much missed in the home circle by those who loved him so dearly-missed for many bright and loving ways, and little songs he used to sing. They little thought that he would so soon be called to sing with the angels just over the way. Death loves a shining mark and stays not his hand for anguish or breaking hearts. We know not why. We can only try to feel that he who rules knows best and doeth all tings well. The parents and children had never known the full value of human sympathy, but for this experience. They fell very grateful for the floral tributes offered. Among them were these:

Wreath, Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Fuller; cross, Cousin Ina; wreath, Maggie Bovey; cross, Cousin Rou; boquet, Mrs. M. McConnell; sickle, Mr. and Mrs. Deyo; name “Earlie” in bridal daisies and myrtle leaves, Aunt Florence; boquet, Fannie Hend; boquet, Eliza Gordon; boquet of cut flowers, Susie McConnell; boquet, Albert Schmidt.

The funeral services were held at the family residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. McClintock, pastor of the M.E. church, Meriden, officiating. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered to take a last look on the form of one beautiful in death.

One little face looking from that bright world above.
One happy voice calling in tones of peace and love.
Two little feet are walking on heaven’s pearly floor;
Two little hands are waiting to open the crystal door.
One pair of eyes are looking to see when we shall come.
One little voice calling all of his loved ones home.
