OBITUARY

Mrs. Ann Corbett died at her home in this city Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1892 at 8 o’clock p.m. The deceased was born on the 29th. of March, 1823, in Newtown, Wales. She was the eldest daughter of Robert and Mary Baker. At the age of 11 years she joined the Wesleyan New Connection church, and at the age of 18 she was married to Philip Jones, with whom she lived until his death in 1862. In 1868 she married Wm. Corbett, he dying in November 1884. She came to Freeport, Ill., with her husband, Wm. Corbett, in 1865 and after living there two years came to this county, where they located on a farm six miles from town and. After the death of her husband she, with her adopted son Edward, moved to town and has since lived here. Her life has been one of charity and good will to all by whom she has been surrounded. Although never having had children of her own, she filled a mother’s part of large number of children. During the last ten years she has been afflicted with that dread disease asthma. Her suffering, especially during the last few years, has been most intense, and she very frequently expressed a desire to go to her “long rest.” Her last illness last about ten days. From the first it was thought that she could not recover and she realized that the end was near and very patiently awaited her time.

The funeral services will take place Friday afternoon at 1 o’clock at her late home, after which the remains will be laid to rest in the Meriden cemetery. Among the bereaved are a sister, four stepchildren and an adopted son. In all the years of her illness her adopted son Edward has been with her and looked after her every want. Though not of flesh and blood she was “mother’ to him and he was as faithful as any son could be.
