Obituary

W.P. Barnes of this city, died at his home in the Addition Wednesday morning, August 7, 1895, at the age of 73 years. He had been a sufferer from nerve failure for about five years. The funeral was held at the M.E. church, of which society he has been a faithful and consistent member since early manhood, at Quimby Thursday morning. Rev. Ferris conducting the service. The body was buried in the Potter cemetery in Silver township.

Mr. Barnes was born in Louisville, KY., July 7, 1822; at the age of two years he moved with his parents to St. Clair, Ill. In 1841 he married Jane Wright. Eight children were born to them, five boys and three girls. Six children survive him, three sons and three daughters, one of the former, Henry, living in this city. In 1844 Mr. Barnes removed to Elk Grove, Wis. Some time after he returned to Illinois, where his wife died in 1864. Returning again to Wisconsin, he was married to Emeline Hackett in 1866, one daughter being born of the union. In 1879 he came to Iowa, locating in Fayette county. From there he moved to Silver township, this county, in 1889, shortly after locating in Cherokee, where hw has since lived.
