Welden-Bates

At the home of the bride’s parents Sept. 18, 1890 by the Rev. J. MacAllister, Mr. J.F. Welden of Iowa Falls, and Miss. H.W. Bates of Cherokee, Iowa.

The home of Mr. Bates was filled to its utmost capacity by the groups of relatives and friends, who gathered to grace this happy occasion. The relatives included the entire Bates family, six grown up sons and daughters, all married now and settled in different parts. It is as yet an unbroken band, and this was the first meeting of them all since the old home days when they sat at the family table as boys and girls together.

The bride is well known in our Cherokee society, which shall miss her bright presence hereafter. The groom is a young man of most pleasing appearance and manner, engaged in manufacturing business in Iowa Falls. His mother, an uncle and a fair cousin represented his relation at the marriage.

The presents to the young couple were numerous, beautiful and costly showing esteem in their value, and good sense in their selection. Mr. and Mrs. Welden left on the 9:50 p.m. train for Chicago and elsewhere as a honey-moon trip, before settling down to home life at the beautiful little city of Iowa Falls, their future home.
