July 30, 1890 Weekly Cherokean Democrat

Married.

RANKIN-BUTTS

At the residence of the bride’s parents in Cherokee, Tuesday, July 29, 1890, Mr. John Rankin and Miss Lottie Butts, Rev. W.L. Ferris officiating.

The above interesting ceremony was performed at 10:30 in the forenoon in the presence of the relatives of the contracting parties only. Both have a host of friends who will hear of the event with pleasure. The bride is the oldest daughter of townsman Jos. Butts, and a young lady worthy to be the bride of the best young man in the land. The groom is the son of J.P. Rankin and has filled with credit the position of route agent on the Cherokee and Dakota road, which he now occupies, he is one of the finest of boys, and we wish for him and his new made wife all the happiness they are deserving of.

After the family had retired last night the Illinois Central band put in an appearance and honored the couple with a serenade. The boys were “taken in,” the take set and a fine repast served, and a short season spent in merry-making.
