Claude Young’s Mark Golden Wedding Year

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Young, who were married in Cherokee Nov. 29, 1916 observed their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Colonade Room at Hotel Lewis on Nov. 27.

The day’s festivities began with dinner for 35 relatives and friends at the couple’s home, 215 East Maple.

Serving as door hostesses were their children Mrs. And Mrs. Merlin Young and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sleezer.

On the refreshment table was a two-tiered white cake decorated with gold flowers, flanked by a three branched candelabra with gold candles.

Presiding at the silver serve were Mrs. Lela Brownmiller, Mrs. Albert Young and Mrs. Bill Schmidt. At the punch bowl were Mrs. Fay Pettengill, Mrs. Dennis (Janet) Ekren and Mrs. Bob Messerole.

Registering the 180 guests in a gold guest book presented the couple by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boothby, Jr. was Jean and Jane Patterson, grand nieces.

Claudia Sleezer and Kathy Young, granddaughters were at the gift table.

A corsage and boutonniere were given the honored couple by their children and families.

Dining room hostesses were Mrs. John Patterson, Mrs. Wayne Cave and Mrs. Paul Jenness, nieces,

Out of town guests attended from Minnesota Lake, Minn; Webb, Storm Lake, Alta, Larrabee, New Hampton, Aurelia, and Estherville, Ia., and Omaha and Homer, Neb.
