O'Brien/Broderick/Cross Genealogy

Hi,
I am researching my ggg grandfather Tim O'Brien.
He married Mary Cross sometime before 1872. I find them in the 1880 census for Mason City. Their eldest child John James born 1872 married Etta Broderick born 1875 in Mason City Nov 29 1894.
I wrote for John's birth and marriage certs from Cerro Gordo, but they only have his marriage. They dont have birth records before 1880. Any clue where I could find a birth record for 1872 in Mason City? Or since they were Catholic- was there a Catholic church in town at that time? Maybe they have a baptism certificate?

I am hoping that John's birth or baptism record might get me the dates and place of birth of his parents,(more than just "Ireland" that I found on the census of Tim O'Brien) - that's where I am really at a dead end. Same for Mary Cross, I need her birth date.

Or any ideas on where I might find marriage certificate for Tim & Mary O'Brien prior to 1872?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
