CLEAR LAKE - Lulla Fern Cummings, 96, of 1404 Main Ave., Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 28, 1999) at Oakwood Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake with the Rev. Fred Lewis of United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Luella F. Cummings Memorial Fund. Visitation will be one hour before service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lulla was born in Britt, the daughter of Ephraim and Myrtle Ione (Chapman) Cummings. She attended school at Orthel No. 2 School, 10 miles northwest of Britt. She moved with her family south of Clear Lake in 1933 and continued to live there until she, her sister Etta and brother, Fred moved into their present home in Clear Lake in 1972. She was a seamstress and helped mothers take care of their newborn infants. She loved to travel, sew and play cards. She was a member of Sing and Sew, Clear Lake Senior Citizens and Home Extension Club. Survivors include her sister, Etta Cummings, Clear Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Fred, and many friends. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Etta Mae Cummings, 96, of 1404 Main Ave, Clear Lake, died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 2, 1 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Family suggests memorials be given to Clear Lake United Methodist Church in memory of Etta.

Etta was born Aug. 24, 1906 in Britt, Iowa the daughter of Ephraim Husted and Myrtle Ione (Chapman) Cummings. She attended rural Orthel #2 school. Etta farmed with her brother, Fred, and sister, Lulla, in the Britt area and later in the Clear Lake area. After retiring from the farm they moved into Clear Lake in 1972.

She was a very loving, kind, and self-taught person. She enjoyed gardening, and raising flowers. She was a member of the Sing and Sew Club for sixty years until it disbanded, Clear Lake Senior Citizens since 1972, and a friend of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. The Cumming's family belief in education was very strong. Etta's life dream was realized this year as she started the Cumming's Family Scholarship for the Clear Lake School System.

Survivors include cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fred, and sister, Lulla. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Fred Leland Cummings, 87, of 1404 Main Ave., Clear Lake, died Friday, March 31, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 5, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. James Louk officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 26, 1901, in Britt, to Ephriam and Myrtle (Chatman) [sic. Chapman] Cummings. He attended Orthel No. 2 School near Britt. After completing his education, he lived nine years in Staples, Minn. He then farmed of different farms near Britt until moving to a farm south of Clear Lake in 1933. He farmed until 1972, then moved to his present home in Clear Lake. He was an engineer of the Threshers Ring for nine years. He raised purebred Herefords for 30 years. He was a member of the Clear Lake Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two sisters, Lulla Cummings and Etta Cummings, both of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers were Martin Hansen, Jerold Watson, Donald Ytzen, Armond Hanson, John Sorensen and Alvin Asstrax. Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Susan Micklick.
