Jonathan and Lamirch Baker Page were married 18 Sept. 1831 Dorset, VT. They went to Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada where Jonathan was a Baptist preacher. Their children were born in Canada: Cnythia, Martha, Ebenezer, Corsen, Charles.
They returned to the U.S. in 1845 and settled in Winnebago County, Illinois. Here Lamirah died in 1851.
Later in 1851 Jonathan married a neighbor, the widow of John M. Balake who had four children.
Jonathan and Sarah with their nine children came in a covered wagon from Illinois and across the Mississippi River to Frankville, Winneshiek County, Iowa. They bought land one mile north of the Glenwood Church and one mile east. Later they bought land in Mitchell Co. Aftrer Jonathan's death the family moved back to the farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. They brought with them a large herd of cattle.
Jonathan was also a Circuit Rider. he travelled as far west as mason City, Iowa and from there into southeastern Minnesota and Northeast Iowa. On his arrival neighbors congregated in some home or log cabin for church services. Delayed funeral services and marriage services were then performed. In 1852 he held church services in a church 1/4 mile north of the Glenwood Church.
He is my ancestor and his grave is east of Decorah, Iowa on the Old Stage Road.
Is this helpful?
In another bit of information I also have him serving in the Civil War....However, he died in 1861 and the Civil War began in April of 1861....I am trying to research that information!
