December 12, 2017Mason City -- Robert “Bob” Bernard Cassidy, 85, of Rockwell, IA died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Hospice of North Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am with a one hour prior visitation on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St E, Rockwell. Father John Gossman will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Dougherty, IA. Military honors will be performed by the Rockwell American Legion.
Bob was born on March 31, 1932 in Dougherty to Maurice and Lewine Cassidy. He was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty and had his first communion and conformation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. Bob graduated on May 27, 1951 from Sacred Heart High School. The very next day he enlisted in the United States Navy. Bob went to boot camp in San Diego, CA and Torpedo School in New Port RI. He was stationed at Navy Ammo Depot in Hawthorne, NE. Bob served aboard USS BairokoCVE115. He was discharged on May 26, 1955 at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. After he was honorably discharged he began working for NW Bell Telephone Company from July 28, 1955 to retirement on January 1, 1986. NW Bell Telephone Company is now known as Century Link.
In his free time Bob enjoyed many road trips down to Florida to visit Cyndi, Mike and their friends. He also toured several Iowa backroads on organized tractor rides with friends. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Rockwell American Legion.
Bob is survived by his sister, Marian (Lloyd) Witte of DePere, WI and niece Cyndi (Mike) Seamon of Longboat Key, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Lewine Cassidy; sister in infancy; grandparents, Danial and Rose McLaughlin and Bernard and Emma Cassidy; Godparents, Joe McLaughlin and Marcella Jackson.
Bob's family would like to thank all of the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and a special thank you to Dr. Congello for the upmost care. In addition they would like to thank Good Shepherd and Rockwell Nursing Homes and also Hospice of North Iowa.
