Wayne C. Borchardt, 85, of Rock Falls, IA, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, with Pastor Kathy Graves officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City and continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Interment will take place in the Rock Falls Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St SE, Mason City, IA 50401 or Trinity Lutheran Church.

Wayne Carl Borchardt was born July 17, 1928, on the family farm in Worth County, IA, the son of Carl and Gladys (Tabbert) Borchardt. He attended country school near Rock Falls.

On June 3, 1956, Wayne married Elaine Kraft in Nashua, IA. The couple spent one year in California and then moved back to Rock Falls where they lived on a farm. Wayne raised livestock and was a longtime farmer in Rock Falls. He enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. Wayne would look forward to attending and supporting them in their extracurricular activities. He also enjoyed gardening, sitting outdoors relaxing and enjoying nature.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Wayne is survived by his children: Janna Borchardt of Willmar, MN, Brad Borchardt of Rock Falls, and Lynn Borchardt and wife Janet of Mason City; 3 grandchildren: Britney, Tyler and Logan Borchardt, all of Mason City; 1 brother: Dale Borchardt and wife Bonnie of Mason City; 1 sister: Ardis Moss of Riceville, IA; and sister-in-law: Virginia Kraft of Nashua, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1981; his mother and father-in-law: Fred and Anna Kraft; and brother-in-law: Richard Moss.
