Obituary - Thomas Mitchell
December 09, 1838 ~ November 03, 1911

Thomas Mitchell, the second child of Matthew and Elizabeth Mitchell was born [December 9, 1838] in Prague, Bohemia and came to America with his parents in 1855.

He was apprenticed to a blacksmith at the age of eleven and spent most of his life in this trade and as a wagon maker. The last few years of his life were spent as a farmer in the Rock Falls, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa area.

Apparently the years between 1855 when he arrived in America and 1858, he spent roaming around until finally moving to Wisconsin and marrying Katherine Schindler.

He enlisted in the Union army as a blacksmith in 1861 with Co. A, 32nd Wisconsin Infantry and served six months at which time he was discharged due to a disability.

Thomas then moved to Rock Port, Atchison Co., Missouri and in 1873 he returned to Wisconsin in the Mount Pleasant, Green Co., area, moving to the Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa area around 1885 and finally moving to Rock Falls, Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa in 1898. Thomas and Katherine lived the remainder of their lives in the Rock Falls area.

Thomas died on November 3, 1911, at Rock Falls, Iowa. Interment was made at Rock Falls Cemetery.
