Funeral services for Mrs. Herman Frederick Everts, of 1918 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, in Mason City, Iowa, who died Friday, November 30, 1930 from burns received when gasoline in which she was washing clothes exploded, were held from the First Methodist Episcopal Church at 2:00 Monday afternoon, December 3. Rev. William H. Spence officiated. The body was taken to the church from the McAuley Mortuary and interment was made in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Maria Elise Caroline Metta "Mattie" was born at Postville, Iowa in Allamakee County on October 13, 1883. In 1905 she married Herman "Hermie" F. Everts in Postville, Iowa. They have lived in Mason City, Iowa for the past 26 years.

She was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Queen Rebekah Lodge 106, the Yeoman and the Tribe of Ben Hur. The accident in which Mrs. Everts was injured occurred last Tuesday, November 27. The explosion demolished the home and slightly injured Mr. Everts who was in the house at the time. Their daughter Vivian was also in the house but was uninjured. For a time her physicians thought Mrs. Everts might recover, but her condition was reported less favorable Thursday morning and Friday morning the doctors had little hope for her recovery and she died shortly after noon.

She leaves her husband, Hermie Everts; 2 sons Hale Everts, age 18, and William Everts, age 15; a daughter, Vivian Everts; 3 sisters, Mrs. John (Wilhemine Marie) Powell of Postville, Iowa, Mrs. William (Mary) Klinkenburg of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Mrs. Adolph (Frieda) Foels of New Richmond, Minnesota; and a brother Charles F. Krogmann of Postville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Jurgen Carl and Mary Caroline Johanna (Schroeder) Krogmann and a brother, William Krogmann who died in 1915.
