The wife Bessie Bridle, mentioned in his obit must have been his 2nd wife.

The 1925 Iowa Census: shows Roy H Pohle, the son of John and Margaret (Tuecke) Pohle; and his wife Fern E, the daughter of Riley Barnhill and Rosa (Davis) Barnhill.

And in the 1930 US Census: Roy H Pohle 34; Fern E. 34, son Harold H 15
Fern Electra Barnhill was born November 12, 1895 and died December 1, 1987. Name at the time of death was Wiley.
In a death notice for her mother Rosa Barnhill, Mrs. C. H. Wiley is mentioned and living in Illinois. Harold Charles Wiley born October 1894 in Cerro Gordo Co., Iowa, has a SS death record of : Harold Wiley October 15, 1895 to January 1982, Woodstock, McHenry, Illinois.

Additionally there’s a small article in the May 21, 1943 Globe Gazette about Seaman Harold Pohle attending a family dinner at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Barnhill.

In the 1900 US Census: Sheffield, Franklin, Iowa
John H Pohle born September 1854; Margaret born December 1862; Alma L born February 1885; Oscar W born October 1890 and Leroy H born August 1895.
So Roy’s birth name must have been Leroy and his nickname “Roy”. His WWI Draft registration is under the name Roy.

Roy’s son Harold is buried in the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa
