MASON CITY -- Edna C. DOUGHERTY, 96, of Mason City, died Monday (Oct. 28, 1996) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. John R. KREMER and the Rev. Stephen MEYER officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Edna C. DOUGHERTY was born June 19, 1900, in Dougherty, daughter of Barney and Ella DOUGHERTY. She grew up in Dougherty and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School.

Edna owned and operated Hollywood Beauty Shop in Mason City for 65 years until retiring at the age of 93. Her 1929 hairdresser's license was one of the earliest issued in the state of Iowa.

She loved the outdoors and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include one sister, Gladys DOUGHERTY, of Dougherty; and four cousins, Liz DOUGHERTY of San Diego, Calif.; Molly CRITTON of Madison, Wis.; and Dan and Barney DOUGHERTY, both of Dougherty.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Marie and Ann DOUGHERTY, and Vera RAMKER; one niece, Sister Mary Robertelle; and one nephew, Robert DOUGHERTY.
