B. Dougherty, 85, Succumbs
Was Son of Founder of Dougherty Town

Bernard "Barney" DOUGHERTY, 85, pioneer resident of Dougherty Township, died at his farm home at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday [September 3, 1952], following a heart attack. He was a life-long resident of the vicinity.

He was born Sept. 26, 1866, in a log cabin, the son of Daniel and Mary (GALLAGHER) DOUGHERTY, for whom the town of Dougherty had been named. He was married to Ella MULLEN, Sept. 23, 1897, at Dougherty.

Surviving are his wife, five daughters, the Misses Marie, Gladys and Ann DOUGHTERY, at home, Miss Edna DOUGHERTY, Mason City, and Mrs. Mike (Vera) RAMKER, Greene.

Three sisters, Mrs. Mary WADE, Miss Teresa DOUGHERTY and Miss Margaret DOUGHERTY, all of Dougherty, and a brother, Joseph DOUGHERTY, Butte, Mont., and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and a sister.

Final Rites Held For Bernard Dougherty, 85

Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated for Bernard (Barney) DOUGHERTY, 85, pioneer resident of Dougherty township, Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church in Dougherty, with Father Paul J. MAGUIRE, celebrant.

Father Raymond BOHRER, Rockwell, was deacon; Father Francis CAMPBELL, subdeacon. Also present in the Sanctuary was Father E. J. O'HAGEN of Waterloo.

Pallbearers were L. B. CAMPBELL, Dar GALLAGHER, Redmond McMANUS, John CONWAY, Kenneth ALDEN and Francis GALLAGHER. Interment was at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Mr. DOUGHERTY was a director and past president of the Farmers Elevator and Creamery Company, Dougherty, and a trustee of Dougherty township many years.

Master of ceremonies was John O'CONNOR, Thurifer Donald STAUDT, acolytes Eddie SOUCEK and Joe SCIENIZINSKI. Organist was Rose Mary MURPHY and members of the St. Patrick's School choir sang under the direction of Leo O'CONNOR.
