J. DOUGHERTY funeral set for Monday

Requiem high Mass will be celebrated for Joe DOUGHERTY, 83, retired farm laborer of Doughtery, at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty. The Rev. Leander REICK will be the celebrant.

Mr. DOUGHERTY died Friday afternoon [August 15, 1967] in a Mason City hospital. Born in [November 12] in New York, N.Y., he was the son of Hugh and Catherine (CLARKE) DOUGHERTY. He attended school in Dougherty and worked as a farm laborer until his retirement in 1957.

Surviving are a brother, James DOUGHERTY, in California, and a sister, Grace DOUGHERTY, Minot, N.D. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Pallbearers selected are Clark, Rober and Jimmy Joe DOUGHERTY, Raymond HOGAN, Jerry SWEENEY and Redmond McMANUS. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Dougherty.

The parish Rosary was scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at the E. G. DOUGHERTY home in Dougherty, where the body will lie in state from 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of services. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

NOTE: the 1900 census states that Joe was an orphan. It is likely that he arrived in Dougherty on one of the Orphan Trains and was adopted by Hugh and Catherine (CLARKE) DOUGHERY.
