When she was a young woman, she met a young soldier named Chuck Crabb from Chapin, Iowa who was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. When he was discharged and went back to Iowa, he sent her a diamond ring and a bus ticket to Iowa. Joyce married Chuck who was the love of her life on July 2, 1950 at his parent's home in Chapin.

Joyce was a housewife until the children were in school. After that she worked as a waitress until she started as a teller at First National Bank in Hampton. She worked there until she retired in 1994.
Joyce enjoyed most of all going dancing with Chuck. She also liked to knit and crochet, raise flowers and watch the goldfinches and hummingbirds that came to the birdfeeders in the back yard.
She also enjoyed doing word finds and crossword puzzles, and was a rabid Minnesota Twins fan, never missing a game that was televised.
Joyce was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Hampton Senior Center and the American Legion Auxiliary. And of course, she enjoyed spending time with Chuck, her children, grandchildren great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
